ThesecondsectionoftheCET-4examtestsyourabilitytoreadandunderstandwrittenEnglish.Youwillbepresentedwithaseriesofpassagesandaskedtoanswerquestionsabouttheircontent,structure,andvocabulary.Thepassagesmaycoverarangeoftopics,suchasscience,history,art,orliterature.Itisimportanttoreadeachpassagecarefullyandpayattentiontothedetails,asthequestionsmayaskaboutspecificinformationorrequireyoutomakeinferencesbasedonthetext.Vocabularyquestionsmayaskyoutochoosethebestsynonymorantonymforagivenword,ortocompleteasentenceusingawordfromthepassage.
Section3:Writing
ThethirdsectionoftheCET-4examtestsyourabilitytowriteinEnglish.Youwillbegivenachoiceoftwotopicsandaskedtowriteashortessayofabout300-400words.Thetopicsmayaskyoutoexpressyouropiniononacurrentissue,compareandcontrasttwoideasorconcepts,ordescribeapersonalexperience.Itisimportanttouseclearandconciselanguage,andtoorganizeyourideasinalogicalmanner.Youressayshouldhaveanintroduction,bodyparagraphs,andaconclusion.Youwillbeevaluatedonyourabilitytopresentyourideasclearly,useappropriategrammarandvocabulary,anddemonstrateagoodunderstandingofEnglishwritingconventions.
